1848
Kichibei Kato, our founder, became a exclusive gardener of Nanzenji Temple.
1848 – Mid-Meiji
For several generations, the family business of landscape gardening is passed down from generation to generation under the name Kichibei.
Mid-Meiji – Taisho
Yasaburo Kato (the fourth family head) Actively promoted the family business of landscape gardening in the neighborhood of Nanzenji Temple.
Early Showa –
Jiro Kato (the fifth generation) Further promoted the family business of landscape gardening in the neighborhood of Nanzenji Temple.
1938
The business was downscaled due to the National Mobilization Law at the start of the second Sino-Japanese War.
1946
The family business resumes after the end of World War II.
1966
Jiro Kato (the fifth generation) and Yasuo Kato (the sixth generation) Father and son together create Nanzenji Temple’s Kohojo Garden. The company applies to Kyoto City for a general construction license.
1967
Jiro Kato (the fifth generation) and Yasuo Kato (the sixth generation) Father and son together create Rokudo Garden in Nanzenji Temple.
1983
Yasuo Kato (the sixth generation) Created Kegon Garden in Nanzenji Temple.
1987
Incorporated as a joint stock company (capital: 20.10 million yen).
Early Heisei –
Daiki Kato (the seventh generation) The company becomes a leader in garden creation.
1995
The company’s general construction license is changed to a special construction license.
1998
Increased capital (from 20.10 to 42.60 million yen).
1998
Tomoki Kato (the eighth generation) A new company president promotes both gardening technique and management.
1999
Company earns an A ranking in the qualified company ratings for all public offices.
2000
The company now has more than 20 employees with a first grade certificate for landscape gardening execution management engineers.
2006
Started operations of Keihanna Commemorative Park as their designated management company (ongoing)
2013
We move to a new head office.
2016
Started operations of Murin-an Garden and The Former Retreat of Tomomi Iwakura as their designated management company (ongoing)
