2012 Environmental Study Sessions for Elementary Students

2012 – The Kyoto Chamber of Commerce and Industry conducted environmental study sessions for elementary students. Our staff, Mayumi Ida and Yosuke Ohta led the lecture on the symbiotic relationship of plants and animals as well as a quiz rally theme on “enjoying observation of nature.” Thank you to the elementary staff for having us.

“Shigoto-hakken-den”

Akira Kawashima, a member of the comedy group “Kirin” was apprenticed to our company to experience training to be a gardener. In the episode titled “Kirin Kawashima X Kyoto Niwashi” of NHK’s program “Shigoto-hakken-den,” broadcast from 8:00 on September 6th, 2012.
On the first day, he experienced cleaning the garden of “Hoshinoya Kyoto” in Arashiyama as an apprentice. Then, he learnt how to do maintenance work on the Japanese garden in “Shosei-en,” a scenic site in Higashihongan-ji Temple. Finally, he tackled the difficult challenge of creating a garden in Kurodani Konkaikomyo-ji Temple. He accomplished the task under the strict direction of our gardener, Mitsuru Yamaguchi. When looking at the completed garden, he was moved to tears. The garden was named “Goen-no-niwa,” and our gardeners are still working on its maintenance. 

2012 Doshisha International Academy – “Firefly Life Cycle

June 11, 2012 (Mon.) – Park director Takashi Yamaguchi of the Keihanna Commemorative Park, which our company is designated to manage and care for, went to Doshisha International Academy to conduct a class the “Firefly Life Cycle.” We that through fireflies, the students will have an increased interest in environmental issues.

In shooting a BVULGARI bag for an article titled “Bi-no-isan, sono-bag (Heritage of beauty, the bag)” in March 2012 number of the magazine “Fujingaho,” president Tomoki Kato took charge of designing the stone garden for its background.

2011 Doshisha International Academy – Field Trip

Nov. 1 & 4, 2011 (Tues. & Fri.) – The Keihanna Commemorative Park, which our company is designated to manage and care for, held wild bird observation classes for the Doshisha International Academy 1st grade students. Mayumi Ida, the park’s manager of creatures, conducted a lecture tour of the park introducing the various wild birds that can be seen at the park, natural observation methods, and tips on how to distinguish different species.

President Tomoki Kato gave a presentation at the general meeting in Kansai of the Academic Society of Japanese Garden in 2011 on October 23rd, 2011.

“Aya-no-koto-wo-yuku Gokujo-no-aki Kyoto-momiji-no-kiko”

President Tomoki Kato cooperated in shooting the special episode titled “Aya-no-koto-wo-yuku Gokujo-no-aki Kyoto-momiji-no-kiko” of TV Asahi’s program “Miyako-no-kahori” broadcast from 9: 55 on October 22nd, 2011. In this program he and two actresses, Rina Uchiyama and Mari Hoshino, visited Nanzen-ji Temple and enjoyed maple leaves in Tenju-an, a sub-temple. He explained the magnificent view with its green, yellow and red color gradations. Then they took a walk in the precinct to the Suiro-kaku. Here, he presented his thoughts on the landscape designing of Nanzen-ji for more than 100 years, from Suiro-kaku’s completion until today.

In an article titled “Ii-kaisha, ii-gakko (Good company, good school)” of the October 2011 number of the magazine “CanCam”, the lessons held in Konkaikomyo-ji as fieldwork of Kyoto study in Ritsumeikan University were introduced.

“Fujingaho,” in the July number of 2011

Tairyu-sanso” and “Murin-an” were introduced in an article titled “Kyoto-mizu-no-niwa, kaze-no-niwa” of the magazine “Fujingaho,” in the July number of 2011. President Tomoki Kato discussed the garden maintenance of “Murin-an”.

“Wafu-sohonke”

Our gardeners cooperated in shooting an episode titled “Micchaku! Nippon no Shokunin 24 jikan zenkoku 148 nin no butaiura (24-hour report on 148 Japanese artisans backstage)” of TV Tokyo’s program “Wafu-sohonke”, broadcast from 19:58 on January 13th, 2011. In this program, our gardeners, working to prepare for winter in the Dainei-ken garden of Nanzen-ji Temple, were introduced.

“Kyoto Nanzen-ji kaiwai sanshisuimei-no-utopia”

We cooperated in shooting an episode titled “Kyoto Nanzen-ji kaiwai sanshisuimei-no-utopia”, in NHK BS-hi’s program “Kyoto tenka muso no bessogun,” broadcast on September 18th, 2010.

Since 2010 – The Keihanna Commemorative Park, which our company is designated to manage and care for, joined the Keihanna Science City volunteer cleanup activity to refresh the community, “Sawayaka West.” The park focuses on cleanup activities of the Seika Odori street. We hope to contribute to the beautification of the community and cherish the connections between citizens.

2010 “Keihanna Sundial Laser Group”

Since 2010 – Park director Takashi Yamaguchi of the Keihanna Commemorative Park, which our company is designated to manage and care for, joined a Keihanna Science City revitalization project, “Keihanna Sundial Laser Group.” He provided community greenery support for various events such as the sundial laser beam revival, Sundial Square beer garden, and the planting of daffodils (Narcissus) along Seika Odori street.

“UOMO”

Our master gardener Sueo Kato and other gardeners were introduced in an article about “Hoshinoya Kyoto” in the March 2010 number of “UOMO” magazine.

“Koshameisatsu Junpai-no-tabi”

President Tomoki Kato and master gardener Sueo Kato appeared in an article titled “Sando-no-photo-album” in the December 22nd 2009 issue of “Koshameisatsu Junpai-no-tabi (Travel to old and famous temples)” magazine. The scenic garden in Chishaku-in was also introduced in the article.
