On Nov. 26 (Wed), 2014 an interview on Yasutomo Inoue (one of our garden craftsmen) about being a garden craftsman; the other face of hospitality, and his active role in the success of the HOSHINOYA Kyoto garden. The interview was published in a boook “Daremo Shiranakatta Hoshino Resort Kodawari Nihon Tabi” (rough translation: specifically selected travel course of Japan via the Hoshino Resort that nobody knows) by SHUEISHA publishing company.

November 8, 2014 (Sat.) – Our company is designated to manage and care for the Keihanna Commemorative Park. The park director, Takashi Yamaguchi, participated in the “Keihanna information fair Mahoroba-Keihanna SSH Science Festival” held at the Keihanna Plaza. He was also the commentator for the poster presentation by the community’s high school scientific research project. 

2014 Environmental Study Sessions for Elementary Students

2014 – The Kyoto Chamber of Commerce and Industry conducted environmental study sessions for elementary students. Our staff, Mayumi Ida and Yosuke Ohta led the lecture on the symbiotic relationship of plants and animals as well as a quiz rally theme on “enjoying observation of nature.” Thank you to the elementary staff for having us.

On October 25, 2014, President Tomoki Kato and one of our garden craftsman, Tomio Sakaue, conducted a guided tour at Nanzen-ji Temple and Murin-an Garden for an event hosted by JTB Nodule and Maimai Kyoto.

October 24, 2014 – The project by Yumi Koyama and Yasutomo Inoue, “specialized hospitality by garden craftsmen at Hoshinoya Kyoto” received the grand award of excellence from Ichizokai (certified nationwide 1st class landscape gardening work operation and management engineers associates). The announcement took place at Hibiya Park (Tokyo).
  We will continue to work hard to provide high quality experiences from garden craftsmen style hospitality.

Tour Guiding of Dainei-in Temple Garden

On October 24, 2014 , President Tomoki Kato conducted a guided tour of Dainei-ken Garden, a sub-temple of Nanzen-ji Temple, for an event hosted by Chugoku Shinbun Joho Bunka Centre.

2014 NAJGA Conference in Chicago

North American Japanese Garden Association(NAJGA) was held during October 16-18, 2014 in Chicago, USA.
On October 18, 2014 – President Tomoki Kato gave a Keynote Speech on “The spirit of the Kyoto garden craftsman ~Fostering Scenery Connecting Time and Space~ ”. Hugo Torii and Akane Ishii served as interpreter at the speech.
On October 16, 2014 – Workshop on “improvements in the evolution of a maturing garden” was held and Takeshi Kato and Hugo Torii supported to demonstrate how to prune and set scenery stone by using tripod.

International News Report

On October 17, 2014, workshop at the conference of North America Japanese Garden Association in Chicago was broadcast on the NHK BS1 TV program “International news report”.
Pruning and stone setting workshop demonstrated by Takeshi Kato and Hugo Torii was featured in the TV program.

Nikkei Otona-no OFF

One of the gardens we have fostered, HOSHINOYA Kyoto, was introduced on the BS JAPAN TV program “Nikkei Otona-no OFF Otona-no Jyoshuku” that was broadcasted on October 6, 2014. President Tomoki Kato introduced how the “Oku-no-niwa” garden was fostered. He included the importance of daily garden care and Yasutomo Inoue (one of our garden craftsmen) was also in the video clip.

On October 1, 2014, the English version of NHK BS Premium’s program “Shin-nihon-fudoki, Tsuki-no-yoru” was rebroadcast by NHK world.
The English title is “Seasoning the Seasons”.

Hand-size Planter Gardens at Konkai Komyo-ji Temple

September 27, 2014 (Sat) – Workshop to create hand-sized gardens in planters/pots was held at KonkaiKomyo-ji Temple’s garden. 3 of our skilled staff, Yasutomo Inoue, Mayumi Ida, and Yosuke Ohta assisted in an event jointly hosted by Maimai Kyoto and the Okazaki  community promotion committee.
  This was a great chance to see a beautiful garden that is only occasionally open to the public.

Hino River Basin Expedition Team 2014

July 14 & 15, 2014 (Mon. & Tues.) – Toshinori Funao a park staff of the Keihanna Commemorative Park, which our company is designated to manage and care, attended as an advisor for the “Hino River Basin Expedition Team 2014 – Observing Creatures” workshop. He taught the Ryūōnishi Elementary School 5th grade students how to collect aquatic creatures and the creatures they would find. The event was sponsored by the Midori Net Hino River Basin and the Hino River Basin Mizusumashi Committee of Shiga Prefecture.
