Nobuhiko Sugihara of Ueyakato Landscape’s Gardening Division was awarded a Letter of Appreciation from the Fire Department Chief of Kyoto City’s Sakyo Ward for lifesaving assistance in response to an accident on the west side of Nanzen-ji Temple’s Sanmon Gate.
On the morning of May 30, while en route to his worksite, Sugihara noticed something different than usual about Nanzen-ji Temple’s grounds. Together with a students and teacher from Higashiyama High School, he helped perform lifesaving aid for a person who had collapsed. The Letter of Appreciation expressed gratitude for the calm and bravery he displayed in this rescue effort.
The person who had experienced a medical emergency regained consciousness while being carried in an ambulance to the hospital and is currently recovering.
