We held a training seminar for Japanese garden management and creation for non-Japanese participants.

From April 22-26, we held a five-day training seminar for Japanese garden management and creation for non-Japanese participants. We established this program In response to several requests received to provide training for gardeners and students overseas as an opportunity to experience the mental attitude that underlies Japanese garden management and creation—something that cannot be experienced merely by visiting Japanese garden sites—and share the secrets of stone arrangement through practical training alongside our company’s veteran gardeners.

For this program's first year, we chose as our theme “The Environment of Kyoto and Japanese Gardens” and focused on how to incorporate exterior space into the garden as “borrowed scenery,” especially in waterfall stone arrangements.

Although the program was limited to five days, there was plentiful discussion between our two participants and our company’s gardeners about a wide range of topics, including how to use the “facial expression” of stones when creating stone arrangements, how to express nature, garden planting, and how to make the best use of garden composition and space.
