On October 8, 2026, Motoki Tanaka of Ueyakato Landscape’s Design Division spoke at the Comprehensive Social Welfare Center in Yeongwol, South Korea for “2026 Yeongwol International Garden Symposium.” This symposium features speakers including Nils Kolbjorn Waern (Drottningholm Palace) of Sweden, Gerd Koch (Austrian Federal College of Horticulture) of Austria, and Miae Jeong(the Korea National Arboretum) and Young Jo Yun (Gangwon National University) of South Korea. Speakers presented on the current state and latest initiatives being made on behalf of gardens in each country, and there was also a presentation on the “K-Garden” concept currently being pursued in South Korea.

At the end of the event, all speakers participated in a panel discussion covering topics ranging from climate change responses, concerns regarding calls for a one-size-fits-all approach to the “preservation” of historic gardens, and the promotion of the public’s understanding of garden culture. It was an invaluable chance for landscape professionals to discuss the future across national boundaries.

This symposium was also introduced in Tonga Ilbo, one of South Korea’s leading newspapers. (October 14, 2026).
