Ueyakato Landscape gardener Tomio Sakaue and Michael Shapiro of our Garden Heritage and Artistry Division appeared as lecturers in an educational video produced by Kyoto University's Field Science Education and Research Center. In the video, Sakaue and Shapiro provided a virtual tour of Murin-an, following a route typically closed to the public. Along the way, they introduced points for deepening one's visual comprehension of a Japanese garden and explained how this garden's plants help suggest a landscape of deep mountain scenery. The video was shown to a class of students studying at the University of Sao Paolo University.
In this age of globalized communication, we look forward to many more opportunities to share our knowledge of Japanese gardens with people throughout the world.
