Ueyakato Landscape gardener Tomio Sakaue gave a guided tour of Konchi-in Temple and Murin-an for a Mai Mai Kyoto and Council for the Promotion of the Charms of Kyoto, Okazaki co-sponsored event.
At Konchi-in Temple, whose garden was created by legendary garden designer Kobori Enshu, Sakaue lectured as he moved from the Toshogu Shrine to the temple’s crane garden. At Murin-an, a garden created by Ogawa Jihei VII, he explained about the garden’s viewpoints and stories about its stones by comparing the garden today with photographs of it from the turn of the twentieth century. For our participants, it was an occasion for all to deepen their interest in how gardens are enjoyed.
