On October 30, 2021, Ueyakato Landscape gardener Yosuke Ota and Takako Wada of our Environmental Culture Planning Division gave a guided tour of Shosei-en Garden for a Maimai Kyoto event.
They explained to guests the thirteen scenes of Shosei-en made famous by the early nineteenth-century poet Rai Sanyo’s “Record of Shosei-en” (Shoseien-ki), the view of Mt. Amidagamine once visible behind the Ingetsu-chi Pond, and guided guests to the remains of the garden’s boat wharf, a site usually closed to the public.
The event became an opportunity for participants to deepen their interest in our gardeners’ daily efforts toward nurturing the garden while also devising features such as the autumnal soundscape of insects on its South Island (minami-oshima).
